The exterior page edges have plenty of their original gold gilt intact, really not much worn off at all and it gives the outer pages an attractive golden sheen. The outer spine is covered in a dark maroon brown and shows age appropriate nap loss to what I think was either velvet or corduroy. The fabric is in overall good stable condition and the binding is secure, with all pages attached as they should be. The silver toned metal hardware is original and all parts are in place. The clasp works properly but the album is in need of some photos, so as to expand the pages a bit so the clasp will catch tighter. These photos show the lovely embossed florals which sit atop a rather interesting design and the lower left corner wear. The corner looks worse in the photo, as this close-up makes it look larger than it really is, it measures about ⅛ inch in any direction. This corner wear would be the worse of any bumps to the celluloid, any other little corner wears would be truly insignificant. The interior of the album is in relatively very nice condition and I am showing you the worst of the pages which is inside the front cover. There are 12 pages and only the first few pages have slot tears, most everything is there and can be taped. The remainder of the pages are quite good. Each page holds 4 photos, 2 on each side of the page. The photo areas measure a little smaller than 4 by 6 inches so this album will hold 48, 4 by 6 photos, isn't that marvelous. Most of the pages have their original paper separator that fits between the photos, there are only a couple that are missing. Basically the interior is in much nicer condition than many antique albums that are found today.
The backside of the album is covered in bright forest green celluloid and it is in extra nice condition. Other than a little bump on the corner, there is not much to complain about, it shows only normal age related usage, no real damages. Please excuse the reflections. One aspect of this album that I really like, other than it's dynamic subject matter, is the size. It is an elongated album and measures 16 inches in length by approx. 7 in width and is about 1¼ inches thick. It is not an overly heavy album, which makes it convenient for carrying. This is a fabulous antique Victorian celluloid photo album that is sure to please it's next owner. It would make a splendid wedding gift or special surprise for the Lancelot or Guinevere in your life. Item 2-117 D $455.00 On Lay-a-way Place Order via Email We Have More Celluloid Albums & Boxes
