It is unusual to see the use of both silver and
gold together but it does make for a very special presentation. Even though I
have picked up some reflections in my photos, they show these pieces very well,
including the color tones. The all-over and abundant transfer decorated artwork
makes this set especially appealing and attractive. The roses cover the greater
portion of the porcelain backs and are, for the most part, in very good
condition. The porcelain suffers no damages and there is just a little wear to
the paint here and there, especially on the outer gold gilded borders. In my
photos, you will see some darkened areas on these gold borders but they are just
reflecting my black shirt, I couldn't seem to avoid it. My photos are very good and show
exactly what you should expect to receive, there is no black in the gold gilt
borders.
 
The silver plated rims and handles are decorated
in an Art Nouveau style, as shown. This set was made during the turn of the 1900
era. I have cleaned and polished both pieces, as best as I could, it is secure
and strong, however, there is some small denting to the rims on both pieces,
more so on the hair brush. Overall, the condition of this set is in good, sound,
antique condition and has plenty of life and glamour going for it. The original
beveled mirror was no good so I replaced it with a clear quality mirror having a
wide bevel at the outer edge, much like the original. I am showing a reflection
of my dining table light fixture for clarity sake. The hair brush bristles show their age but
the brush is a wonderful and desirable decorative accent piece to the hand
mirror. This
mirror measures the standard at 9¼ inches in length with a 5 inch viewing
surface and the brush is proportionately a little smaller. This unique antique porcelain backed
Art Nouveau hand
mirror and brush set offers a different color combination of silver and
gold, not likely to be seen again any time soon. Please review all the photos
closely and determine that you can love this set and it can add grace and
distinction to your vanity.
