The unique features of this egg plate are the 6 individually attached egg wells, all of which seem to be molded as part of the tray, they will not separate from the plate. Each egg is hand painted with delicate flowers to include colors of pink wine burgundy, cornflower blue, deep yellow, dark purple and pumpkin orange. The flowers are also strategically scattered about the the tray and overall, this tray is about as cute as they can be found. I'm showing you a good variety of photos so you can see exactly what this tray has to offer. I did have plenty of problems with reflections, so please excuse them.
All of the edges and rims on the tray are decorated with a gold gilt that gives a sort of splashed on effect. I detect very little gold wear here and there, really nothing much at all. The background tone on this tray is a soft snowy white. This 1880's Limoges egg tray is in superb, well kept, damage free condition, no chips, hairlines or other negatives that I can detect and I have looked it over several times with a magnifier. The colors are all crisp and bright and the artwork, although on the simpler side, is well executed. This tray is really all about it's one of a kind and unusual attributes. The backside is stamped, as shown, we know it is an earlier mark because the word Limoges has not been added yet, this is an 1880's tray. This little sweetie measures just over 8 in diameter and the eggs rise up off the table about 1½ inches. The eggs themselves measure approx. 2¾ across by 1⅞ inches. This endearing tray shows no signs of usage, no scratches, it is superb and is a great investment quality Limoges egg tray from a time when they knew how to make distinctive serving pieces, add this one to your treasures today.
