These pieces had been in storage for a very long time and were rather tarnished, but I was happy to give them a new home and put in the time to bring them back to their original radiance, as best as I could. I had my fair share of trouble taking photos, sterling wants to reflect everything in it's path but my photos offer a good presentation of these 3 pieces. This set is striking and very pretty, a somewhat larger set that has fair weight, yet not overly heavy. I don't have a proper scale, so I can't be exact but it is not a chintzy set. The tops are beautifully etched with lattice designs and scrolling detail which are reminiscent of the Art Nouveau era.
The elongated and shapely handles add the perfect touch of regal elegance to this rather stately looking vanity ensemble. The hand mirror and hair brush will arrive with a nearly perfectly matched bonus piece, a second brush, most likely used for clothing. Although it is not made by the same company, nor is it initialed, it is well hallmarked and the designs are nearly exact to the set. The extra brush came to me with this set so I will include it as a complimentary addition to your dresser pieces and overall, it is in very acceptable condition and measures approx. 3 by 5 inches. This set is being priced for the hand mirror only, please accept the brushes with my good wishes.
Obviously, the mirror and brush are beautifully initialed with the letter B, making this a perfect gift for the B in your life. The hand mirror is in extra nice condition and has not been abused at all. The sterling on the hand mirror has the usual few surface scratches but it has no significant denting. The hair brush has full bristles, it has a fair amount of small shallow dents to the top sterling and is being advertised for decorative use only. My photos show the true condition of this set and what you should expect. I spent a fair amount of time polishing these pieces, they are lovely as is but I will pass a cloth over them once again prior to shipping them to you, so they can arrive shining with optimum radiance.
This set is very heavily hallmarked, along with registry numbers that help date this set to 1928. Clearly marked made in England, the set also has the Adie Brothers Ltd stamp from the 1920's. The original beveled mirror shows a gorgeous usable image with no age related problems. I am showing the reflection of our dining table overhead leaded fixture, for clarity sake but it's much nicer in person. The brush bristles are set in wood, the wood is aging and showing wear but it is all very stable and the brushes are securely wrapped in sterling silver. I have found no splitting, breaks or serious issues with the sterling. The hand mirror measures about 12 inches in length by 4½ at the widest, the viewing surface is approximately 6 in length by 4 inches in width. The brush is proportionately a little smaller and weighs lighter than the hand mirror. If you've been searching for a sweet vintage sterling silver hand mirror and brush vanity set, with the letter B, please consider this dressing table collection, it is both eye-catching and a dashingly regal example form the 1920's era of finer English sterling.
