This little handbag depicts a full length profile of a lady. She appears to be reaching up to a tree, perhaps picking fruit of flowers for her bag. There is a lot to look at on this purse, intricate floral arrangements, scrolling details and borders all framing the central figure and all maintaining strong depth of color. There are multiple background shades of ecru and beige, all of which has aged gracefully over the past 100 years. I cannot quite discern what is stitched immediately behind her back, it is stitched in a light color, perhaps she has wings but I can't tell for sure. I detect no apparent flaws or splitting to the front or back petit points, just a little darkening of the fabric as you would expect, purse showing truest tones in the first and last photos. Even though the lower outer corners look to have had a tad bit of rubbing, they are still very nice and the piping is fine as well. Look how wonderful this close-up is and all the fabulous colors. The interior maintains the original lining with dual gathered pockets. The fabric is in wonderful condition, with little if any thinning but does have a few small lipstick spots on the pocket. This charming little purse is securely attached to a delicate sterling silver frame, a perfect crown for this handbag and seems to have a very slight tint of gold gilt. It's in super shape, bright and clean inside and out, all straight and working as it should, with a sweet sculpted ball closure. The exterior of the frame is fully etched in ultra fine detail and the interior is signed, as shown. The last two photos are showing both front and back. The chain link handle, which cleaned up like sterling, carries this purse well and drops 6 inches. Measuring, stuffed with tissue, about 5 & 1/2 in height by 5 across the frame and the outer petit point border is just shy of 3/4 of an inch. This Victorian petit point purse came to me from a lovely lady in the United Kingdom. She said her purses were well cared for and properly stored, and they were. Nonetheless, I have cleaned this purse for you so it could present itself at it's very best. I do not acquire Victorian petit point purses very often, they rarely surface in this preferred condition, I know you will appreciate adding it to your treasured keepsakes.
