Now surely you have not seen a more interesting Elgin loose powder compact in a long time. I do believe it is quite extraordinary and finding it in this wonderful condition is an added treat. Perhaps this compact was used once, if at all. I can't really detect any usage, the puff may have been used once but I cleaned it well and it looks great. I'm sure you would want to use your own powder applicator but it's so nice to have the original, especially for the collector of these more unusual compacts. My photos are showing a good representation of all the color tones but you will find it to be more radiant in person. It has a unique personality that photos just can't fully express. The background is a shimmering mother-of-pearl shell, enhanced with a sun and sailboat that appear to be inlaid discs of some sort. A few seagulls to decorate the sky and then there's that marvelous raised tropical palm tree. The tree is a combination of deep emerald green marquise cut rhinestones, in two different sizes and a summer lime green in the rose cut. The outer border has two rows of lime green rose cut stones and a few of them have taken on a little darker tone.
The interior has a nice clear mirror, the puff is in place and signed, as is the lid of the powder well and the black satin holder. The powder well has a little thumb tab for opening and it closes with a solid snap. The door needs assistance to open with the well empty but will spring open when there is powder inside. The black satin compact keeper is a great additional accessory and shows a little aging and rubbing at the corners and edges. The backside of the compact is a plain gold tone and is in very nice vintage condition, the dark corner in the photo is a shadow. Overall, I would rate this compact a near 10, I find no significant negatives, damages, repairs, just a superb and rare Elgin American loose powder compact. It measures 2⅝ inches by 2⅛ inches, the case is proportionately larger, all mechanisms work properly and all elements are well attached. How can you resist, it's simply divine and my best guess on the age is from the 1950's.
