Although the artist states the figure as being an Egyptian Guardian, my research shows the statuesque male with a rams head to be that of the Egyptian god, Khnum. A very old legend in Egypt tells that mankind was made on the potter's wheel by the great creator Khnum, using mud of various colors from the Nile. That being the ancient Egyptian belief, it seems correct that he would be one of the guardians of King Tut's tomb.
My photos show the intricate carvings well but I did have to use a flash so you could see the true beauty a bit better. The art is carved on a piece of rich solid mahogany with deep medium tones and superb graining. It measures from top to bottom, 18 & 3/4 by 10 inches and is about 1/2 inch thick. The artwork is very well detailed showing the full talent of the artist, Bill Violante, signed on the back in script by the artist. I believe the Egyptian enthusiast would appreciate this piece and what a great gift it would make.
