This stunning creation was made during the 1930 - 1940 era and although I find no markings, the Evans Company was the leader in the making of these vintage carryalls. The top of the purse is enhanced with a charming gathering of 2 ladies and a gentleman, dressed in period costuming, enjoying the company of one another. It was common, in days long ago, for a chaperone to accompany the swooning couple, as to keep an eye out for proper etiquette, many times it was her mother. The central arena has beautiful scenery in the background and overall, this purse, is covered in lush soft color tones, not too stark but some of the colors may be a little deeper than what is showing. The scenery is bordered with a gorgeous edging of roses, forget-me-nots and a variety of other decorations, including some delicate scrolling designs. The background tone mat be showing a bit too much like ecru, it is perhaps a tad lighter than the photos, perhaps more of a tan, more like in the close-up below and the side profile.
As you can see from the close-up photos, the needlework is quite small and snugly stitched together. The exterior construction is a golden brassy toned hard metal case and is in very nice condition for it's age. There are no dents or serious flaws, just a little bit if usage and age marks but nothing very significant or distracting nor very noticeable at all. The case is strong and sturdy and supports it's purpose well. The clasp works as it should and snaps the case shut soundly. The case opens and closes on a piano hinge which it in excellent working order. The interior of this carryall is fully loaded with all of it's original components and accessories. You will discover it's clean lipstick tube, perhaps never used. There is a little change purse which has a slot for holding it's celluloid comb. The powder well still has remnants of powder, as well as a cute little feathery powder puff. The powder well lifts up to reveal the secret area for hiding that $50. bill. There is a metal plate that is used as a mirror, it has a little rubbing but it continues to offer a very usable image. This metal mirror folds forward to expose the cigarette compartment, which comes in very handy for your credit card, small hanky or other needed essential. The interior and it's parts are in very good to excellent vintage condition. I don't find any significant signs of age or abuse, no dents or problems to report, just very minimal signs of usage, well cared for and preserved.
The backside of the case is plain gold toned, with a slight brushed finished, and suffers no damages, just a few minor scratches, which is not offensive in the least, quite acceptable for it's age and better than many carryalls I find. This gorgeous and romantic micro petit point compact purse measures 3 inches in height by 5¼ in width, it has a depth of nearly ¾ of an inch and the chain handle drops 4 inches. This is a marvelous petit point vanity bag and in equally marvelous condition. Let me know and I'll put this treasure aside for you.
