Although the fabric looks like ivory linen, I believe it's a lightweight, delicate, fine cotton pima gauze. The embroidered designs on the front side are especially pretty and intricate, the backside has a simpler pattern. I'm showing you lots of photos so you can see for yourself how stylish and charming this vintage handbag is, a perfect summer garden party or wedding purse. I have not seen very many of these purses through the years, they simply don't survive, but I believe this one is from the 1950's. I bought it from an estate along with a 1930's mesh purse so it could be a bit older. I could not get the ivory tone to show in the photos so please remember that this purse is not white but it does have an obvious sheen, as seen in the first and last photo. The interior has an excellent bright white satin lining with a good sized pocket. It appears that there is a fabric between the exterior and the lining that stiffens the purse a little, causing it to hold a good shape. The top of the purse lays down with a sweet mother-of-pearl button and there is a cloth handle made from the same fabric as the remainder of the purse. I acquired this bag with it's matching little change purse, so I will leave it in the pocket for it's new owner, you will be delighted to have it. This handbag measures, stuffed with tissue, 5 & 1/2 in height by 7 & 3/4 in width, one inch in side depth and the handle drops 3 inches. The coin holder is approx. 3 by 4 inches and is so adorable. This wonderful vintage handbag looks like it is covered in antique embroidered lace, the ivory tone is bright and spotless. The condition is all you could hope for with a purse of this vintage, looks barely aged at all, it's been well stored for many decades. If you have an upcoming wedding and want to carry something embroidered, you will want this purse, let me know and I'll place it aside for you. If you want your daughter to carry something matching, check out the smaller version of this purse that I am now offering.
