These incredibly beautiful handbags are highly esteemed, sought after pieces, and there are very few of them available. They have a personality that is unique and they are the most luxurious tapestry purses ever made. The weave on this bag is so tight that distinguishing it from a micro petit point is very difficult but after extremely close scrutiny, it does reveal itself to be an Aubusson, I show the weave in the close-up photo. I'm exhibiting lots of photos so you can judge every aspect of this purse and conclude that it is most worthy.
The front of the purse depicts a wonderful scenic landscape with lady and gentleman dressed in period clothing of the times. The workmanship is divine and the colors of the silk and wool threads are strong and crisp, without fading or wear of any kind. The colors are varied from rich pastels to deeper earth tones with the outer perimeter, sides and bottom being jet black. In my photo, it looks like there is a spot above the ladies wrist but there is no stain or discolor on this handbag. This magnificent creation is crowned with a superb repoussé brass frame. It is signed on the interior arm of the hinge, made in France. The extravagant detailing is a treat and the additional 13 carnelian translucent gemstones make this purse an extraordinary piece. The stones are presented in various shapes and sizes and have colorful tones that include dark brown, blood red, brighter red, orange and yellow. All the stones are well placed and "securely set" but the two on the furthest sides are cracked. The one on the left side, near the hinge, has a more difficult to discern hairline but the stone on the right shows the crack well in the second photo. The backside of this purse is equally as appealing with a smaller scene of a castle and a bridge over the waterway. The surrounding nature gives the view a dimensional look causing the scene to pop off the jet black ground. The brass repoussé frame carries its grandeur to the backside with deeply embossed designs. The entire frame is a work of art with every inch showing heavy detail including the graceful swan finials and the wreath pull. The sculpted floral ball clasp is the push down to open style and is in perfect working order.
The interior is lined with a quality black satin-like faille fabric and edged with a gold trim. There are multiple pockets for your accessories and one of them has a zipper closure which helps to date this purse. The first zippers were made in 1913, so this handbag was created soon afterwards. Stuffed with tissue, this handbag measures 8 in height by 7½ in width, the sides and bottom are 1¼ inches, the double French chain handle drops 7 inches. The overall condition is remarkable, it is very clean, well cared for and well stored for decades. This purse is in gorgeous condition. There is no splitting, wear, fading or stain to the tapestry, it's simply marvelous. This one's a beauty that you may want to consider. I have looked and looked, I couldn't find another Aubusson tapestry purse online, of this quality and condition, priced so fairly.
