Truly one of the best cared for antique purses I have acquired, the cut steel beads look as new, as does the entire bag, but I assure you, it is not. I acquired this purse a couple of years ago from a huge Ohio vintage purse collection and I just had to admire this one for a time. The French cut steel beads are glistening and so is the frame and chain handle. The supple Victorian velvet fabric is divine and so is the black velveteen lining, all perfectly gathered about the frame. The frame is signed on the interior, made in France, although I had to sneak a peek under the lining to find it. The entire exterior of the frame is completely embossed and the littler wreath dangle with bow is delightful. This purse has absolutely no wear or signs of age whatsoever, remarkable for it's ripe age of nearly or 100 years young.
My photos are good but this purse has a great sparkle and the exquisite black velvet expresses the full grandeur of the Victorian Era. From the push down to open clasp to the double fringe, one row on each side, this purse is pure elegance. I just know someone must have carried it to the opera once but it doesn't look like it has ever seen the light of day. This purse measures only 6 inches in length by 5 in width, a wee 4 inches across the hinges and the double chain handle drops 5 inches. Please order this opera purse now before I soften and put it back in my china cabinet. I really think you should carry it.
