This rather large dough chopping bowl is absolutely gorgeous, having numerous glowing brown tones, along with a shade of auburn, a rich warm patina and the overall appearance of the wood is quite attractive. My photos are expressing it's character and stunning tones accurately but it's true beauty will be seen in person. The interior is showing it's over 100 years of use with plenty of cut marks from chopping those wonderful herbs and many other foods. I am sure the making of dough had to be one of it's purposes but there was a lot of cutting that went on in this bowl. The entire bowl is quite smoothed from age and honest usage but there are still plenty of visible lathe lines on both the interior and exterior. This bowl possesses good firm weight, is made from hard wood and can be comfortably carried in 2 hands.
The upper lip of the exterior is well defined with a ⅞ of an inch outer rim, while the bowl itself is a generous size of 16 by 17 inches and sits proudly at between 5 and 5½ inches in height. The size is particularly adequate to perform many tasks and is the perfect size for your decorative needs. The condition is quite marvelous, having all the personality you could want in a bowl but suffering no damages nor any of the more usually found cracks. Of course, there is the occasional bump, bruise and nick, all adding to it's unique persona. I have gently cleaned this bowl for you, removing only the decades of dust and leaving behind a clean, natural wood bowl that you will be pleased to own and use.
The bottom of this bowl has a gently defined foot, somewhat worn down from decades of supportive use. This bowl sits firm and steady, it is ever so slightly boat shaped at the upper edge, which I find extremely charming. It is out of round as it should be yet it maintains symmetry and is well fashioned. You will find it easy to love and cherish this antique New England dough bowl, it has everything going for it: a full size, radiant color tones, superior eye appeal and the desired condition every collector hopes to find. Let me say once again how very nice this Connecticut dough bread bowl is, it's ready for your decorating ideas or for use.
