It was quite dry and needed a gentle cleaning but as you can see it is radiant with life and personality, left in it's natural state. This rare early 1900's hand turned dough bowl has loads of Birdseye, heavily figured to both to the interior and exterior. The turning lines are very evident to the interior but not so to the exterior. I'm showing you lots of photos so you can imagine how fabulous it will look amongst your country or woodenware collection. These Birdseye maple dough bowls are highly esteemed and sought after, it's no wonder why, they are incredibly appealing. This example is well sized at 15¼ by 14⅜ inches, out of round, just the way I want to find them and it sits sturdy at varying heights between 4¼ and 4¾ inches. The under side of the bowl, towards the bottom, has a small flattened area, seen in the 4th photo at 12 o'clock and I'm showing a close-up of it. This area has several eyes and a small divot, it measures about 3 inches in diameter but everything is very smoothed out with age and nothing about it compromises the integrity of the bowl, it only adds a sense of mystery and character. I find no crack, hole or damage to this bowl. It has scratches and cut marks from use but nothing naughty at all, much nicer than what is usually found in a bowl of this age. The colorful patination is rich and warm with soft golden brown tones. This is a splendid antique Birdseye maple dough bowl that will find a special place in your heart and on your kitchen Hoosier, sideboard or dining table.
