The coloring has several rich darkened brown tones as well as perhaps a little auburn. For added personality, you will also discover a few of those marvelous bird's eye figures scattered about the bowl, both to the interior and exterior. This bowl shows that it was much loved and used for over 100 years by the numerous cut marks from the daily chopping of herbs and other food preparations. There also appears to be some sort of circular discolor, like a water mark, where dough likely sat for many hours rising. It seems apparent that this was a full service dough bowl yet it maintains excellent structural integrity, no cracks or damages, making it a superior investment quality American piece. Another distinguished attribute of this bowl is it's wider than normal, 1¾ inch raised outer lip. It was thoughtful of the bowl maker to add this desired feature. And it doesn't end there, this is a nice large bowl, measuring as it should, out of round, a generous 17 by 16 inches and it sits sturdy, on it's very slightest raised bottom at around 5¼ inches, give or take. I believe my photos show all of these early traits very well, allowing you to make a proper judgment about this bowl. The condition is wonderful with no issues to complain about. I have done nothing to this bowl but give it a good cleaning and a very light coconut oiling to keep it from drying out too much. This bowl is splendid in every way and if you have been searching for a fabulous American hand turned dough bread bowl, please consider this large and gorgeous example.
