Primitive Ohio Farm House Trencher Dough Bowl 1800's

During my recent hunt to find dough bowls, I acquired three great bowls from an Ohio farm family estate sale, this is one of the three.

No doubt the most primitive bowl I have purchased, I am especially taken by it's unique shape and the fact that it is a bit more shallow than the typical.

My photos are showing the qualities of this bowl very well, including the lighter multi brown tones. The wood does appear to be all hand carved but the bowl is completely smoothed from it's nearly 150 years of age and overall use. This bowl carries good solid weight yet it is not too heavy, just right. I love how it has aged with that graceful warped shape, leaving behind lots of different measurements depending on where you measure. This bowl has been well loved over the century but also well taken care of, no abuse and no cracks, how unusual for a bowl of this age and magnitude.  I don't see many cut marks in this bowl so dough making had to be it's main purpose or some other food preparation. The bottom is appropriately flat allowing the bowl to sit properly and steady.

This terrific bowl has wonderful size, measuring generously at 21¾ in length by 11¾ in width and sits anywhere between 3 and 4 inches in height at various places around the bowl. The interior, as I said earlier, is more shallow than the usual and I believe that shows well in my photos. This bowl is the perfect decorative accessory for showing off your favorite fruits and veggies or perhaps you have some ideas of your own.  With a holidays always seeming to be not too far off in the distance, a seasonal change of bowl fillers is a fun option.  This bowl is in extra fine condition, it is crack free and shows no damages or problems.  Overall, this is a fabulous antique farm house trencher, worn in all the right spots with good eye appeal and a few of those tiny worm holes that did not go through the bowl. I know you will be pleased to add this treasure to your decorative accessories, it looks like a really fun primitive bowl, I couldn't be happier with it.
