More precisely, this bowl measures a whopping 20 by 19 inches and is out of round just like it should be, caused by the natural aging and shrinking of the wood. It sits flat and steady at between 5½ and 6 inches, depending on where you measure. These out of shape characteristics are to be expected as well as desired. This one aged gracefully, suffering no cracking or damages. We are showing you lots of photos so you will know what to expect and can judge this bowl as worthy of your consideration. The coloring is a warm and inviting golden amber honey tone, this is a solid maple wood bowl and it carries heavy weight. The wood has a nice feel, we have applied nothing to this bowl, although in the past, there may have been a wax applied to the exterior, as it has a bit more of a shine. This bowl was hand turned, over 100 years ago, on a lathe. The exterior of this bowl pronounces all of these lines, in addition to a distinctive base with a 5½ inch diameter, a well defined outer lip that is over 1 inch wide and a good scattering of birdseyes. The interior of the bowl is marvelous, it has some fabulous deeper and more unusual turnings and lots of fine cut marks. There were plenty of herbs chopped in this bowl and I am sure it made big batches of dough on many occasions. I could keep going on about this incomparable piece of Americana workmanship, it's fantastic. Please consider adding this massive 20 inch dough bread bowl to your country decor or giving it as the very special and rare gift.
