Antique Victorian Portrait Scenic Celluloid Photo Album Not What You're Looking For?  Click Here To See More Celluloid Albums and Boxes   OH dear, what a splendid celluloid album this is. Looks quite a bit nicer in person even though my photos are a very good representation. A recent acquisition of a few celluloid photo albums included this marvelous example and I believe this is likely one of the best antique albums I have ever acquired.

This album is in very fine, incredibly well kept condition, showing especially well for being over 100 years old, actually it looks almost new. I often wonder where an album, like this one, could have spent the last 100 years and remain so extremely preserved. It is always a privilege for me to be able to offer such as extraordinary celluloid picture album. The central theme is that of a charming young woman standing at the edge of the forest. She is very attractive with a mood of innocence about her. She wears a lovely floral dress and holds a matching coral toned rose in her hand. She has a sprig from the forest in her other hand and draped over her arm is a wardrobe accessory that appears to be decorated with blue ribbons and flowers. The background is alive with the colors of the setting sun running throughout the rear landscape and down into the meandering stream.

This close-up of her shows how really sweet she is, standing so patiently, waiting for her beloved beau, no doubt. The coloring on this album is very crisp and delightful. The scenery is surrounded with some of the most gorgeous raised embossed detailing I have seen on an album. The photo of the corner shows a good depiction of this elaborate workmanship which completely encircles the artwork. It also shows the greenish golden tone background and the striking addition of purple lavender violets, which are worked around the perimeter of the cover. Again, my photos are good but they don't do justice to this album, it is absolutely stunning.

Look at all the gold gilt remaining on the exterior page edges. I do believe it is nearly 100% intact and it's glowing.  The brass closure is all there, the top and bottom attachments are snug as they should be and everything is in solid working order. The spine and backside of the album are covered with a captivating and complimentary Victorian velvety fabric. The spine is in excellent original condition and the velvet along the spine shows only minimal wear to the nap, here and there, really not much for it's age.

The backside of the album shows you how electrifying the pattern is, like old Victorian wallpaper. The black background really pops the colors and the velvety fabric is as clean and eye-catching as the day it was applied, no wear, tear or discolor. The interior of the album will not disappoint you either. There are 15 decorated pages and each page will hold 4 photos, approx. 4 by 6 inches in size. The pages have gold stenciled designs and lovely purple lavender flowers. If it were not for a very few small tears, here and there, inside the album, I would think this album was never used. The pages are secure to the binding and this album suffers no structural weaknesses. This is a heavy album and a little on the larger size, measuring 12 inches from side to side, 10 inches from top to bottom and is about 2 inches thick. If you've been hunting for that really special celluloid album, in really superb condition, this outstanding antique Victorian celluloid photo album will fit that description and remember, it looks more elegant in person.
