My photos show the depth of colors very well, the full bodied roses are quite lovely with all of their many petals. I was unable to get the glossy porcelain backs to stop reflecting, so there are a few reflections showing in my photos. To remedy this, I am showing you lots of photos, so you can see for yourself that this is a very special vanity set. It's so fabulous to find a hand painted mirror and brush set that has this much Victorian charm and elegance. The roses are painted in a rich wine burgundy and white roses with an abundance of shadings. The white roses are enhanced with raised droplets of paint, giving the appearance of early morning dew drops.
The background tones have a delightful depth, which sparks mystery and adds much character to this exquisite set. I believe I was able to capture the colors fairly well, especially these 2 photos. I don't think there is any denying that this is truly an exceptional mirror and brush that any woman would be excited to acquire. The porcelain is in marvelous condition, no damages, chips or flaws. The paint looks complete, with barely a minute scratch to be discovered in a couple of spots, really nothing at all to be concerned about but I must mention it for accuracy.
The golden brassy toned metal rims and handles are especially pretty and totally exemplify the Victorian era with their embossed rose design. I have polished the metal, it now glows like gold gilt and looks a whole lot better than these photos. The handles are secure, sturdy and dent free, really in very nice condition. The rim of the hand mirror has one flattened dent at the top edge and there are some very small dents to the rim of the hair brush, however, nothing that takes away from the fragrant splendor of this set. The brush bristles are complete and in extra nice condition but are for decorative use only. The original beveled mirror is perfectly clear and has a little flaw in the glass at the very outer edge, near where the handle attaches, looks like a small flake in the glass but it does not interfere with the reflection or cause any disturbances. I am showing the reflection of our dining fixture for clarity sake and you can see the little flake near the handle. This alluring hand mirror and brush set measures the standard size of 9¼ in length with a 5 inch viewing surface, the brush is proportionately a little smaller. This antique Victorian hand mirror and brush set is more than splendid, they are fascinating vanity accessories for the lady of the house. I'm not a collector but this is going to be a difficult set to part with, they don't come along this pretty often enough.
