Hand Mirrors Facts & Tips

Art Nouveau Wedgwood Blue Jasperware Vanity Hand Mirror

<<<< Back to Hand Mirrors and Brushes page 2

This late 1800's dresser hand mirror offers a fine Victorian to Art Nouveau example of elegant  Jasperware presented in a deep Wedgwood blue color.

Even though blue is a difficult color to capture, I believe my photos are doing a great job of showing the tone and depth of color, it is a true deep Wedgwood blue.

I think these Jasperware vanity accessories are simply divine. The blue bisque porcelain and the white Jasper raised and sculpted decorations are in gorgeous condition, with no flaws to mention, at least none that I see or that are perceptible. The shape of this hand mirror is a little different than what I usually find and the scenic rendering is a fanciful view of a lovely lady on the swing with playfully attentive cherubs, one is hanging onto the end of the swing and the other is shooting his bow and arrow, perhaps it is Cupid. This artistic rendition is adorable and if Wedgwood blue is your preferred color, how can you resist this hand mirror.

I'm enjoying showing you lots of pictures so you can fall in love with it, just as I have. The brass rims and handles are extraordinary, being completely covered in heavy embossed designs of both Victorian roses and Art Nouveau scrolling designs. The workmanship is superb and the condition is perfect, not one issue to speak of, I don't see nor feel any dents or flaws. I have cleaned and polished this piece to a beautiful golden gilt tone, it now appears rich both in character and eloquence.

The original beveled mirror is still very clear, you can see yourself  just fine but the extra thick old glass is showing some small signs of aging, a little dark spot at the outer edge and some very slight streaking that is not too noticeable. I am showing a reflection of our dining table fixture for clarity sake. I believe this deeply beveled mirror will serve it's next owner for a long while to come and is perfectly acceptable, in consideration that it's well over 100 years old. This hand mirror compares in size to the porcelain backed pieces, the mirror is 9½ in length and the viewing surface is approx. nearly 4 inches across the widest section of the top by 5 inches in height. If you love Jasperware, please consider this dynamic Wedgwood blue vanity hand mirror, it's wonderfully charming in every way.
