It's been awhile since I have offered a set with cherubs that have been this adorable and endearing. This set is soooo much better looking in person, these photos just don't do it justice. The porcelain itself may be more of a semi vitreous porcelain but I can't tell for sure. The hair brush has just a little glaze crazing,(not cracks) up above the cherubs, however, it is not that noticeable. The scene is quite charming and the outer edges are hand painted with wide aqua teal blue borders. My photos show the colors and all aspects of this set very well. The artwork has what looks like a misty appearance, as if the figures are inside the clouds, seems to be an intentional design and the porcelain backs are in very good condition, with no chips or cracks.
The metal rims and handles are especially significant in weight and style. They are marked German Silver and I have polished them to resemble sterling silver. There may be some tarnish in the deeper crevices but the set is gorgeous to look at and striking in appearance. I find no damages, dents, distortions or other flaws to note. The rims are totally delightful, with a wider scalloped design and the handles are quite heavy and supportive. This set is structurally very durable, with an overall dynamic look and the handles have raised embossed Art Nouveau flowers. I can't remember the last time I held a set that felt so strong and sturdy.   The mirror is perfectly clear and has a nice wide bevel at the outer edge. I show a reflection of our dining light fixture for clarity sake. The hair brush looks to have natural bristles, set in wood. They are showing some discolor but are intact and don't look to have been used too much, however, I advertize the hair brush for decorative use only. Although the porcelain discs and mirror are the standard size, the set measures a little larger because of the metal framing. The hand mirror is 10 inches in length, 5¾ in width and has a 5 inch viewing surface, the hair brush is proportionately a little smaller. If you are attracted to Victorian cherubs and if you like what you see, this beautiful figural cherub hand mirror and brush set will find a soft spot in your heart and a special place on your vanity. Please look closely at all the photos and consider it, as I know it will serve you well.
