My photos show the artwork very well and represent the true color tones of purple, Spring greenery, the white daisies are brushed with lavender on the petals and the bouquet is on a bluish green background shade, a wonderful floral presentation. The white porcelain is slightly dome shaped and everything about this set is in superior condition, as near to perfection as they can be found. This set was made around the turn of the 1900's and had never been cleaned, so you can imagine the effort to bring it to this shining glow. It now is polished as best as I could get it but it all looks much better in person, with only minimal tarnish in a few of the deeper crevices.
I do believe that you will be most delighted with this set and I am thrilled to have found these pieces with those very fancy Art Nouveau rims, it has been several years since I have seen them. There were not many sets made with these rims and they are quite elusive and hard to find. Please examine the photos closely, as they can describe these rims better than I. The exquisite hardware in in divine condition, it really does not get any better than this. The handles are embossed with both Victorian roses and all the traits of the Art Nouveau era. There might be an ever so sight depression in the handle of the brush, where the hand would have held it, but if so, it is so slight that I cannot distinguish it with absolute certainly, otherwise the metal work is perfect, sound, secure and stunning.
The natural bristles of the brush are set in wood, they are very full and complete, they are aged, for decorative use only and they will probably drop a bristle now and then. The original beveled mirror is perfectly clear, barely showing a speck of age and is nearly pristine. I show a photo reflection of our dining light fixture for clarity sake. My pictures do a good job of showing you how really fabulous this mirror and brush set is, the floral artwork is not overbearing, so the fancy detail of the sculpted metal really stands out. This set, although not very standard, does measure the standard in size, approx. 9½ in length having a 5 inch viewing surface with the brush being proportionately a little smaller. This antique porcelain backed hand mirror and brush vanity set has it all, painted artwork, charisma and charm, elaborate Art Nouveau designs, desired condition, all it needs is a new home.
