The color of the blue is showing well in my photos but please excuse all the light reflections against the porcelain backs, they are hard to avoid when photographing porcelain. This set has a delightful floral array set against a pure white background with a slight dome shape to the porcelain. The china backs are in damage free condition, you might see a small/tiny insignificant scratch under magnification but no cracks, chips or other issues that would effect it's value. The brass rims and handles have been cleaned and polished, removing as much of the old dirt and tarnish as possible. There are some areas remaining in the deeper crevices, but overall, they are quite splendid. The inner border of the rims have a subtle decorative saw toothed edge. The outer rim and handle, on the hair brush, has several dents primarily to the handle but nothing that is too naughty or distorts the metal too badly, for being over 100 years old, I find it easy to forgive and very acceptable. The rim on the hand mirror suffers little, if any, irrelevant tiny, shallow dents. The handles are beautifully embossed with a combination of Victorian roses and other florals, blended together with classic Art Nouveau scrolling detail, giving these pieces a sense of transition from one era to the next. The handles are very secure and support the mirror and brush as they should. The original beveled mirror was broken, so I replaced it with a quality mirror with a beautiful wide bevel at the outer edge, much like the original. The natural bristles in the brushes are planted in a wood base and are intact but showing all of their age, however, these hair brushes are for decorative use only but it is always wonderful to have an accompanying hair brush to sit beside your hand mirror.
I am showing a photo with the reflection of our dining leaded fixture for clarity sake. I think this set is in extra fine condition for it's age, extremely pretty and lively, the lover of blue will be delighted to own it. The hand mirror measures approx. 9¼ in length, it has a 5 inch viewing surface and the brush is proportionately a little smaller. Overall, this vanity hand mirror and brush dresser set is marvelous and if you love the color blue, as I do, you will be pleased with this vanity ensemble.
