These are radiant faceted glass beads in the most stunning purple lavender shade and each bead seems slightly different having it's own individual effect on this purse. They are hand knit on a deep wine purple background threading in vertical rows of alternating swags and fringes. The exterior of these beads are crystal and reflect a good amount of light, resulting in a shimmering piece of art. The variegated shades of purple and lavender are emitted from the interior of the beads. Some beads have more color, some are more crystal but all are intact, secure and make this purse a very special antique handbag. The beadwork and threading are in marvelous condition, so well kept and cared for. I see no missing beads, stains, snags or problems. This purse is crowned with a very unique and rare silver plated Art Nouveau portrait frame, exhibiting a lovely profile image of a Nouveau lady. These are very elusive frames and are discovered infrequently, as once they find their way into a collection, they are not seen again, sometimes for decades, as is the case with this purse. Both front and backsides of this frame features this profile portrait along with a striking presentation of pierced flowers and leafy designs. This is a structurally sturdy frame, it is not delicate and with proper care should hold up well for another 100+ years. The metal work has some nice subtle curves and wraps itself around to the arms of the frame, as shown below. All aspects of the metal are in solid form, hinges are good and the purse closes with a gentle snap.
The original lining was gone so I chose a quality deep purple silk that is not showing so well in my photo. The color of the silk is a nice complimentary addition to the purse, very smooth looking, not grainy like the photo, I do believe you will be pleased with it. I trimmed out the edge with the finest embroidery of pale lavender florals and greenery, all looking very pretty and inviting. The purse and lining are well attached to the frame and this handbag has been professionally cleaned for your future enjoyment, it's a beauty, indeed. This is a small purse, much like a puffy and will carry only your smaller essentials, such as lipstick, cash, and small hanky. It measures 6½ inches from the top of the clasp to the bottom, 6 inches wide at the bottom, 3 inches wide at the top of the frame, 4¼ inches across the hinges and the carry chain handle drops the purse by 6 inches. These last 2 photos show each side of the purse, it's a sparkling little gem of a bag and if you've been wanting to add a rarer purse to your collection, please consider this exceptional antique Art Nouveau purple lavender beaded purse with a portrait profile frame.
