The purse is very lightweight, the beads may or may not be glass, they are cool to the touch, a magnet does not attract them so they are not steel. The background is an Art Deco pyramid shaped design of extremely tiny stitches, like tambour needlework. The workmanship is extraordinary, as only the French artisans were capable of exhibiting, surely it took months to hand fashion this beauty.
The close-up photos show the color tones fairly well, they are soft muted shades of brown, beige, amber, gold and a slate blue gray. The size of the hand worked stitching is remarkable, this labor intensive work is a lost art form. The clasp is jeweled with glass amethyst and the interior of the gold tone frame is signed on the metal, made in France.
The lining was in complete shreds so I re-lined with a quality vintage silk in a rich shade of maroon, adding more depth to the exterior earth tones. This little French work of art measures 5 inches from clasp to bottom, 4 3/4 across the hinges and the lovely chain handle drops 6 1/2 inches.. The hand stitched work is complete, no snags or pulls and the coloring is consistent throughout, does not appear to be faded at all. This purse is quite scarce, I'm sure not many have survived in this condition, it will make an interesting addition to your collection and treasured accessories.
