The late 1800's to the early 1900's brought forth some of the most fascinating hand made beaded purses and this one will certainly fit that description. My photos successfully express the beauty and coloring of this purse but you will discover that it's even more dramatic in person. The color palette is gorgeous but I didn't quite capture some of the blues exactly. The peacock, of course, is the main attraction on this handbag, WOW, isn't he stunning with those beautiful rich color tones. His colorful shades really contrasts perfectly off of the sparkling cut and faceted charcoal black glass beaded outer border. Both sides of this purse show the same scene and I really don't see any significant bead loss whatsoever, certainly nothing apparent at all. The frame is a lovely treat with it's filigree appliqués, embellished with ruby and emerald jewels and larger oval cabochons. Even though the peacock was very popular during the Art Nouveau era, there is a herringbone type design on the metal, which seems to introduce the early Art Deco style. The frame is sturdy and supports this purse very well. All stones appear original and are in good condition. The frame's hinges are sound and the purse opens and closes well. The purse is secure to the frame at all points and overall, this is an excellent collector's choice. The bottom fringes are the lattice style and are complete, save for one fringe, if I can match the colors exactly, I will replace it, otherwise it is better left as it is. Someone in the past, re-enforced some of the fringe work, upon close inspection, you will detect this, it's a good job and it kept the fringes in place. The original interior lining, with trimming, gathered pocket, change purse and mirror are all intact and remarkably so. There is a little fray where the pocket is attached but for the most part, it's in fine collectable condition, hard to find them this intact. This treasure has been professionally cleaned and I consider it to be in excellent condition with no significant issues. This purse measures 7⅜ inches across the frame, 11¾ inches from the top of the frame to the bottom of the fringe and the chain handle drops about 6 inches. This purse is a magnificent work of art and oh so amazing. I know you will love it, if you've been wanting that special peacock purse, this is worthy of serious consideration.
