The silver toned metal is either silver plated or German Silver, although I have found no markings, yet. The lovely embossed detailing clearly illustrates the Art Nouveau era, the late 1800's to about 1905. The chain mesh dance purse is so very adorable, measuring a total of 4 inches in length by 2 & 1/4 across the hinges. The original drops that finish off the bottom are complete, the mesh is flawless and overall, this chatelaine purse is superb. The perfect complimentary accessories are the dance card and pencil, a must have for every lady on the dance floor. The dance card maintains it's three celluloid pages, intended for writing the names of the gentlemen that have asked for your hand in dance. It is in very nice vintage condition, no tearing or breaks, just a tad bit of discolor as shown, certainly nothing naughty. My photos show the classic Art Nouveau designs that date this piece. The center arena is not inscribed but ready for your initials. The dance card measures 2 & 3/4 inches from the top of the clasp to the tip of the bottom by 2 inches wide. The lead pencil, about 2 & 3/4 inches, is marked from the well known and first company to introduce pencils to the Americans, Eberhard Farber. Of course, I have cleaned up this chatelaine for you, not too much though. I purchased it at auction and it needed a bit of cleaning. All the chains are in secure condition, no weaknesses with total length being 8 inches. I know you will be thrilled to add this awesome treasure to your favorite pieces. Chatelaines are not that easy to acquire, please consider this one, it's in excellent antique condition, no regrets.
