Every one of these compacts amazes me, the intricacy and precision of the hand work is astounding. This example is hand stitched with ultra fine silk in the micro stitch. The pattern is as lovely as you will find with it's delicate floral design in pale shades of lavender, blue, pink, green and several more tones. The flowers appear to be overlaid against a Victorian lace runner, creating a beautiful and eloquent presentation. This special lay-out offers the compact a certain appeal that is not seen on many stitched petit points. My photos are showing all these details very well and the jet black background really makes everything pop. The colors are soft and feminine and the style gives the impression of being of a fine French lacey tapestry.   This compact is in perfect "unused" condition, it has been properly stored, recently unwrapped for the first time in many decades. The interior is unmarked but complete with the clear beveled mirror (showing minor age related wear), clean screen and puff, all in great condition. The golden brassy toned case is delicately etched on all sides and the chunky clasp closes with a gentle snap. The backside is covered with a material that looks and feels like shiny black leather but I cannot confirm this. This Victorian looking lacy powder compact measures a generous 3 inches square and will blend well with either your Austrian petit point floral or French tapestry handbag.
