I took the photos on our oak dining table, as a contrast, so you could see the deep walnut/cherry tones to the wood. The leaded glass overhead light shows you how crystal clear the mirrored backing has maintained itself. I apologize for the sticker remains but I am out of goo gone and wanted to list the shelf but I will remove the sticker remains prior to shipping. I estimate the age of the shelf to be from the 1920 - 1930 era, of course it could be older but based on the style and construction, as well as the other antiques sold from the estate auction, I am confident it is not newer than the 30's. Even the backside of the shelf is made of wood and the brackets to hang the piece are of heavy brass, another excellent quality which speaks for it's age.
These 2 photos show the fabulous depth of the walnut framing. This is a very well sized shelf at 21¼ in length by 17¼ in width by 5 in depth from the wall, just about the right size for any room. The interior measures 18 in height by 14 in width and has an inside depth of 3 inches. The shelf and interior sides appear to be cherry and have the graining of cherry wood. During the 1920 era, walnut, mahogany and cherry were commonly used in combination, so just to be safe, I will say that 2 of these woods were used to make this piece. My photos also show you how well cut the miter corners are, this was not a cheaply made shelf, the craftsman had talent and knew what he were doing. If you have a formal dining, living or bedroom that could use a superb mirrored wall shelf, please consider this piece for displaying a few of your favorite treasures.
