Vintage Porcelain Figural Scenic Wall Plaques Not What You're Looking For?  Click Here To See More Art and Decoratives   This pair of vintage porcelain wall tiles is quite lovely indeed and date to the early 1900's but they epitomize the look of Victoriana. Actually, they couldn't look more Victorian, all the way to their velvet backs which secure the porcelain in place.

Although I find no markings on these pieces, I have not removed the backings to check the porcelain for signatures and I do not intend to, they appear to have been sealed for a very long time and I will not disturb them.  Each plaque exhibits a different figural scene, portrayed in a traditional romantic French Limoges illustrations.  They are so very charming and, under magnification, appear to be hand painted, excellent artistic talent.  I find no evidence that these are transfer decorated, I believe they are hand painted in very fine detail, perhaps the figures are hand painted over a transfer but I cannot detect that either. 

Each tile is framed with a gorgeous brass tone pierced fancy filigree frame.  These are substantial in weight with no apparent problems or distortions.  They show a wonderful aged patina that I have resisted polishing, I like them the way they are.  The Victorian olive green velvet backs are secured in place with metal tabs, all present and tight.  The backsides have their original little round loop for hanging on your wall.  Each of these plaques measures 5 & 1/4 inches square, including the frames, they compliment each other beautifully and are a special decorative treat.   This is a gracious and elegant pair of wall tiles, superior antique condition, I find barely a scratch anywhere.  I know you will find the perfect place to hang these romantic vintage treasures.
