The gold tone framing is dressed with rare and true pieces of art, I doubt you will soon find another that boasts 7 miniature hand painted portraits on ivory, each one more lovely than the next. The clasp is spring loaded, spanning the width of the frame and is working well on it's piano hinge. When you raise up the clasp, you will discover the backside of the ivory discs on the inside of the frame. I performed the recommended and well known test for confirming the ivory content. I heated a pin with a flame and tried to pierce the backside of the ivory with the red hot pin. Since ivory cannot be effected by excessive heat, the disc suffered no distortion at all. If it were celluloid or composite, a pin hole would have been created. I have no doubt that each portrait is painted on ivory and the characteristic graining of ivory is also present. 
 The black enameled frame is beautifully sculpted so that each portrait is recessed and individually bordered with a golden brassy edge, just like a picture. Each portrait portrays a different lady and I am showing you lots of photos so you can see the eloquent and feminine attributes of this purse. It has a sophisticated persona that is unique and refined.
It's hard to believe that anyone was talented enough to paint these miniature portraits so expertly but the French were well known for achieving such detailed works of art. The close-up photos look a little grainy but that is because they are so enlarged, you will not see this when you look at the purse, you will see only clear and vivid portraits measuring ½ in width by ¾ in height. These elegant portrait evening bags don't surface very often, this purse is a one of a kind that will likely not pass through my hands again for a long time, if ever. 
 I'm showing you lots of photos, they tell the story of this vintage evening bag. The interior is lined in black satin, with dual pockets and designer label. It measures, stuffed with tissue, 5½ in height by 9½ in bottom width, 7 inches across the frame and the golden twisted chain handle drops 5¼ inches. This elegant and rare vintage French evening handbag is a sumptuous delight, it is an uncommon treasure, it is pure eloquence. The condition is superb, excellent, fabulous, all you would want....... need I say more.
