The black and white enameled design is a classic from the Deco era when Whiting & Davis produced several high-end quality compact mesh purses, for which they have become well known for. This example is in exceptionally fine condition with very little wear or signs of usage to speak of, obviously well cared for since the 1920's. The enamel is all intact and the mesh is well attached to all points and at the frame line. Enamel colors are strong with minimal or minute loss, I really don't see any. 
 The bright and polished silver plated compact top is the crown jewel for this mesh purse. The center arena has a raised oval disc that is decorated in black enamel, depicting a colonial couple in period clothing. The silver plate is in very fine condition with only the very slightest rub in the very center, as shown, in person, you can barely see it. The metal is in fine condition, no dents or damages, just a few light scratches, certainly nothing distracting. The rear hinge is secure and the blue tipped cabochon clasp has a snug closure.
The interior is silver toned, even though the top wants to show golden, and very clean as well. The original oval mirror shows a perfectly clear image and amazingly, the little golden, marbleized celluloid comb remains intact, in it's swing out arm, which is signed with the Whiting & Davis logo, as shown. Both the rough and powder wells maintain the original make-up and puff applicators. The rough is still partially covered with some of the original foil. Clearly, this compact mesh purse has only been admired from a distance and barely used.
The compact top lifts up to reveal the interior, unlined mesh purse. The original carry black cord handle with adjustable metal slide is in fine vintage condition and securely attached. This awesome compact mesh enameled purse measures 7 & 3/4 in length by 4 at it's widest. The compact is about 3 inches by 2 by 1/2 inch in depth. I am showing you lots of photos so you can see how really fabulous this purse is. First time I offer this one, I'm thrilled about the condition and you will be too.
