Really wonderful compact purse but hard to take great photos, everything wanted to reflect off the purse but my photos show a nice depiction of what to expect. It's obvious that this purse is from the early 1900's, a great transitional piece, as is evident by that lovely etched Art Nouveau vase of flowers which also shows some subtle Art Deco designs. I love the domed shape and the fact that it is made of sterling silver, makes this purse very special. The front of the case has some pretty background details, as well as the original owner's initials, RH. The original handle and frilly tassel are in very nice vintage condition, just the normal minimal aging. The sterling is in good condition, well polished for you. There are a couple of dents, at the top and bottom edges. Most likely from getting bumped while swinging on the wrist. They are really not bad at all and are not overly noticeable, the one on the top edge is barely seen. There is a very shallow small depression on the front, I can't even call it a dent, you have to tilt it to the light to even recognize it, I am highly scrutinizing this purse for you. The interior has two sections, one side has a flexible arm for holding in place your cigarettes or other accessories. Opposite that space is what appears to be a celluloid piece, used for writing the names of gentlemen admirers. That celluloid piece is slipped into the side edge of a door which pulls forwards to reveal the rouge and powder wells. The rouge well is secure in it's place but the powder well has loosened, it was glued or cemented in, but it has popped loose. In the same slot as the celluloid piece, is the make-up mirror, which is still fairly clear but suffers a crack, as shown. The good news is that the mirror is removable for replacement but you will need an old piece of mirror as today's mirrors are too thick. The backside of this little treasure is plain sterling and only has a couple of very tiny minute dents, really nothing much at all. It may sound like there are a lot of dents on this purse but not so, I think it's great as it is, remarkable to have held up so well, in fact, very few of these have survived so well. This adorable and classy dance purse measures 3 inches in length by 1⅞ in width and is 1⅛ in depth. The frilly tassel adds 4 inches to the length. The cord handle has a marked sterling slide for adjusting to the wrist and that adds another 6 inches to the overall length. I do believe this is a rare and hard to acquire sterling compact purse, as shown, it comes from the International Silver Company. The W stands for the Watrous Mfg Company of Wallingford, CT and they were one of the original companies that were part of the International Silver Co. in 1898. This early 1900's compact purse will be an added treat to your favorite purses or make for a unique a gracious gift.
