Fantastic Vintage Crystal Knit Beaded Purse Early 1900's Not What You're Looking For?  Click Here To View More Antique Beaded Purses   This vintage knit beaded purse presents itself in one of the most dramatic and appealing of the swag designs, thin vertical panels and wider rows of drippy fringes. No doubt, this is my favorite of the swag beaded styles, this one comes in the elegant combination of crystal clear beads on a heavy jet black threading.

The beading is divine, sporting cut and faceted clear beads that provide sparkle and have reflective qualities. The jet black ground makes for a stunning contrasting appearance. The workmanship is well executed, the knitter was proficient at her work, creating a very precise paneled design in addition to those wonderful rows of drippy fringes that widen from the top of the purse to the bottom. This early 1900's handbag is in excellent condition, with no bead loss, snags, wears or previous repairs. I have done nothing to the body of the purse except for giving it a professional cleaning, this purse is radiant and lovely.

The silver plated frame is an expressive crown for this very special knitted purse, having an attached band of open pierced filigree work, as well as a decorative row of Art Nouveau styled flowers and leaves.  The beadwork is well attached to the frame at all points, showing no signs of stress or aging. The original gray lining was splitting apart so I matched the color and type of fabric, I re-lined this purse in it's exact original fashion. The only difference in color and sheen between the new and the old lining, is the approx 90 years of dirt and wear. The original trimming was quite fragile, so I replaced it with a delightful embroidered lace, much like the original.

 

The last 2 photos show both sides of this purse and as you can see, there is much to fall in love with. All you will need is a basic black dress and this purse will add all the charm and sophistication that will be needed to achieve the perfect look. This luscious purse measures 8 inches from the top of the kissing clasp to the bottom of the fringes, 6 inches across the bottom, 5 inches across the frame, the simple chain linked carry handle drops the purse by 6 inches and the fringes are about 2 inches in length. The interior of this antique beaded purse will not carry a whole lot of stuff but it's guaranteed to carry a whole lot of pizzazz. Thank you for considering adding this extremely well made knit beaded and swag styled purse to your wardrobe accessories, it's a beauty from the early 1900's and I think it looks a lot better in person.
