Whiting & Davis Child's Enameled Mesh Purse <<<< Back to Mesh Enameled and Metal Purses   You will simply be delighted to add this unusually small enameled mesh purse to your treasury of vintage handbags. Undoubtedly this example must be a child's bag and that fact is determined by it's size. I don't see many of these smaller children's sizes and never in this pristine condition.

The size is a mere 3 inches across the hinges, 5½ inches from the top of the clasp to the bottom point of the Van Dyke fringe. The mesh alone is only 2½ in width by 4¾ in length. This little bag is as cute as they come and again, in totally pristine condition, how rare is that. The enameled mesh has the colors of pink, red and black, all on a slate background that looks sort of blue in the evening light.  There is actually a fair amount of pink on this purse, I'm not sure my photos will allow you to see it all. I don't find even one spot of missing paint on this purse, I believe it was never used, it's the perfect collector's piece.

The silver toned pierced frame is a very desirable style with those wonderful cut-out floral and scrolling details. It appears to be influenced by the Art Nouveau era and I estimate the age of the bag to be from the early 1900's.  The frame is clean and bright with very little  age related patina showing, it is quite lovely and my photos show you exactly what to expect. It opens and closes properly and it is straight.

The bottom of the purse is finished with a 5 point Van Dyke fringe, a sweet skirt for this handbag. The interior maintains the original little metal tag with the Whiting & Davis insignia. This purse is unlined and I am sure there was never a lining. This purse has not one issue to mention, no wear, no tear, no gaps or other problems. All links are secure as they should be and the chain handle drops about 4¼ inches. I do believe that you will be very pleased with this treasure or what a thoughtful gift it would make for that special someone.
