I can't recall the last time I saw a steel beaded purse that has such a sumptuous pink color and so much of it, along with many other stunning tones and a gorgeous pattern. This Art Nouveau design has an outer decorative border, which gives this purse somewhat of a rug design. The color of the pink is strong and bold, as well as all the tones. It may look like it's fading a little towards the bottom of the bag but it's not, that is just the way the light was hitting it, which may have diminished the depth of color a bit. In actuality, there is wee, if any, fading or loss of color tone on this purse. My photos are showing the various shades fairly well, except for the little purple flowers, which are more of a deep mauve lavender, not so purple as they insisted on displaying. This is truly one of the best cared for antique steel beaded purses I have acquired, the cut steel beads look almost new, as does the entire bag, but I assure you, it is not. I acquired this purse, and several others, from a Texas estate and most of the purses are in very fine, cared for condition. This purse has some weight, as most steel beaded purses do tend to have, so it is not recommended for hanging on a wall for long periods of time.
These close-up photos represent the purse very well, especially most of the wonderful and deep colors. The bright golden brassy frame is fabulous with it's push down to open top clasp and the front filigree dangle is for holding onto while opening the purse. Both of these mechanic features are in good working order and have been decorated with a green cabochon. These green stones have subtle marbled variations to the color and what looks like a couple of gold flecks. The frame, as you can see, looks delightful, it is embossed on all exterior surfaces and the stones are damage free. The purse and the lining are well attached to the frame and I have replaced the attaching threads, as the original threads were letting go and brittle from age.
The interlocking fringes are all complete and original but I did decide to re-string them because the fragile old thread was stretched and perhaps weakened from age, so I thought it better to have some fresh thread passed through these pink, pewter and gold steel beads. The interior lining and trim is original and is as good as you are likely to find. The fabric has an iridescent quality that has both pink and a soft gold sheen. The fabric is not splitting apart or fraying to any apparent degree. Both sides of this purse are pictured for your review and as you can see, there is none of the usual fading that is commonly found on the front of the purse. Both sides are equally as nice, with no bead loss, wears, tears or negatives. I tried to anticipate any problems this purse might have in the future and I have re-enforced those threads. This purse measures 10 inches from the top of the clasp to the bottom of the fringe and it is 7 inches at it's widest. The frame is nearly 6¾ wide and the French loop chain handle drops the purse by 5+ inches. If you've been hunting for that really special and superb French steel beaded purse, please consider this more unusual example with the very best tone of pink.
