But Jesus said " Suffer not the little children, do not forbid them to come unto me......" Matthew 19:14I'll never forget the day my daughter, at the age of 16, came home and informed my husband and I that she did not want to be a Catholic anymore. Immediately my protective tentacles came shooting out of my head and I wanted to know what Cult organization was trying to get their hands on my child. I calmly asked, "If you do not want to be a Catholic, what do you want to be?" She replied, "I want to be a Christian, my swim coach has lead me to Christ." Even though I did not have a clue of what she meant, an enormous sigh of relieve came over me, like a heavy weight had been lifted. The very fact that the word Christ was in her answer was enough for me to want to hear more. She did her best to explain what it meant for her to be a Christian and invited our family to her upcoming Christian baptism. Later that season, my daughter was baptized into Christianity, as a believer in the redeeming blood shed sacrifice of Jesus Christ. She understood that she was a sinner, needed to confess her sins to God, ask Him for forgiveness, committ to changing her sinful ways and accept the free gift of eternal life, knowing that her punishment for her sins had been paid by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Little did I know at the time that God was speaking to our family and extending His eternal invitation to my daughter. God was calling one of my children into His glory and placing His hand on her. Mark 10:13 And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: Mark 10:16 And he took them up in his arms, put his hands on them, and blessed them. Matthew 19:13 Then they brought him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: At the time, that was a lot to take in for a traditional and long time generational Catholic raised family. If my husband and I had refused to support her decision to uphold the Christian faith and it's values, or even worse, tried to keep her from Christ, I shake to think what our fate would have been. Instead, God showed His full mercy and grace by reaching out His hand to both my husband and myself. About 5 years later, first my husband ( praise God) and then myself (praise God even more) gave our lives and souls over to the living Christ. We know that we are saved because God loved us first and chose to touch us and call us into His family. We acknowledge that it was not of our own wisdom that we encouraged our child's faith nor did we answer God's call to us based on our own understanding, abilities or our love for Him. It was through God's love for us, His own Word and the sharing of that Word through others that we were able to experience and embrace the truth of the Christian faith, and that truth has indeed set us free. Mark 10:13- 15 And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said to them, "Suffer not the little children to come onto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the Kingdom of God. Truly, I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein."
