This little piece is heavily and deeply embossed with many exquisite details to include those charming cherubs, flanking both sides of an urn that is overflowing with fruit. I don't think I have enough words to adequately describe this box so I will let my photos speak as they are a very good representation of the item. The silver plate is of extra fine quality, I have enjoyed this box for several years and it has not tarnished much at all over time. It could use a bit more polishing if you like the higher shine but it is very wonderful as is. The sides of this box are sculpted with a stunning armored figural face with an elaborate helmet or crown. You could spend a lot of time studying this jewelry casket, there are so many interesting details. The top is another work of art. There is a finger protrusion for opening the top, it stays open when lifted, there is a stop in the rear to keep it from falling backwards and it closes properly with a gentle snap. The hinge is solid and in excellent working order. There is an oval at the top that could be initialed, that raised oval area has a few very shallow and insignificant tiny dents, they may even polish out. This incredible treasure measures a wee 3 inches in length by 2⅛ in width and stands firm on 4 little feet at about 2½ inches tall. The excitement is not over, this box is signed by it's maker, L. Oudry and a second mark which my eyes cannot decipher. My research tells me that this piece is likely French in origin, as there were a lot of Oudry's that came from France. The interior has been previously re-lined (not by me) and it should be done over in a nice plush velvet, if I had a piece, I would attempt to do it. The box is in remarkable condition for it's age, save for the miniscule dents I mentioned, there are a few dents on the underside bottom as well but nothing too naughty. Overall, the silver plate is in exceptional condition, not worn anywhere that I can see. This jewelry keeper is in fact a jewel, I don't ever see them as nice as this. Imagine giving an engagement ring in this box, how romantic. Item 4-511 B $275.00 Now $235.00 Place Order via Email We Have More Vanity & Porcelain Dresser Pieces
