The tray comes in a traditional kidney shaped style with matching bulbous shaped dresser jar. The extra cover indicates that there was another piece originally, but exists no more. Nonetheless, you will have the choice to use the jar as a hair receiver or covered box and if you have an accident, you will have the extra cover. The tray carries the MZ Austria mark and dates the set to the early 1900's. The artwork is really pretty, all hand painted. The center of the tray, the covers and the edge of the jar, are all painted with an iridescent sheen. The hand painted pastel tones are quite attractive, intact and extremely feminine in nature. The fluffy snowball type florals have quite a bit of raised dotted detailing, as shown in the close-up photo, giving them a dimensional appearance. The rims and finial are gilded in gold, showing some wear on the tray only but nothing too naughty. The jar carries a Haviland mark, as shown, and confirms the age of the set. The tray measures about 11 in length by over 8 in width. The jar is 4 in width by 3 inches tall. This lovely antique dresser set will grace your vanity and offer decades of enjoyment or make for a thoughtful gift. It looks so much better in person.
