I bought this incredible bowl at auction, it was a little dusty and dry, so my husband gently cleaned it up, being careful to remove only the dirt and none of the wood. He did a terrific job bringing this bowl to it's current rich and radiant tone, using natural products only, no chemicals. As you can see by my photos, this antique dough bowl is a splendid work of art. I estimate this bowl to be at least 100 years young but much more likely pre 1900's. It was hand turned on a lathe, I can detect the lines on the outside of the bowl left behind by the lathe. As the interior has smoothed more with age and use, it is much more difficult to detect these lines. I don't know the type of wood used but you can see the graining is quite beautiful and the bowl has a comfortable weight, not overly heavy, just right. The maker of this treasure was thoughtful to create an extra wide 1 & 1/2 inch lip to the outer top edge and define the bottom of the bowl as well, it is just fabulous and very stylish. My photos are excellent and express the true nature of this bowl. I'm showing you lots of pictures so you can fall in love with it as I did. The size is generous and large at a tad bit over 17 inches by a tad bit over 18 inches. It is out of round, caused by the normal drying of the wood, it's just the way you would want it to be and slightly boat shaped, adding more distinct character to it's personality. This bowl is in remarkable condition, rarely found this nice. It sits sturdy and straight at varying heights of between 4 and almost 5 inches, it has an awesome shape. No cracks, repairs, damage or abuse, in fact, it has had minimum usage with only minor cut marks to the interior and a couple of darkened areas left behind, most likely from spoon stirring. I am certain this bowl was used primarily for making dough. This antique dough bowl is a collector's dream and should please the most discerning buyer. It is the perfect bowl for decorating with antique country primitives, don't let this one get away, let me know and I'll put it aside for you.
