Thank you for looking at this more unusually shaped and wonderfully authentic hand hewn trencher dough bread bowl from the 1900 era.

Antique 1900 huge dough bowl trencher 24 by 18 inches

This bowl was hand made from a single piece of medium hard wood, it has good weight but is not too heavy, however, you'll need 2 hand to carry it comfortably.

I acquired this awesome trencher dough bowl from an auction but I fell in love with it and decided to keep it for awhile and enjoy it's beauty. Now, it is time to share it with you and find a new home where it will be treasured and cared for, as it has been for over 100 years of life. The coloring is very attractive with it's multiple brown tones throughout. There are darker and lighter areas, as well as a bit of an amber tone along the outer edging. There are no chop or cut marks inside this bowl, so this trencher had other duties, such as, the making of dough and other related food chores. I love the shape and size of this bowl. The ends of the bowl are somewhat pointed and thicker and then the sides quickly taper to fabulously thin.  This bowl is very smoothed with age and the size is quite impressive, measuring a solid 24 inches from side to side, just shy of 18 inches from front to back and this gallant antique bowl sits proudly and steady at between 5 and nearly 6 inches tall.

As you can see, there is some serious depth to this bowl and plenty of personality. There is a lot of interesting graining and color variations, all attributing to it's uniqueness. Overall, this trencher is in excellent primitive condition, no cracks, hairlines or negatives. Other than good honest use, there is little to report, perhaps a nick, a bump and a bruise, here and there. It has a lot of fine qualities and is a gorgeous piece of Americana workmanship. I have left the bowl as I acquired it, in it's natural untouched state. I gave it a light cleaning, I found no reason to add anything to this well kept bowl, however, a light oiling may be needed at some time in the future, which will only add to it's beauty. This bowl is everything the collector would want in an antique trencher and will look great filled with an assortment of fresh fruit, dried flowers or use your imagination. Have fun decorating or cooking with this warm dough trencher, it will blend well with your furnishings. Look at all the photos carefully and consider this dynamic wood bowl.
